Ayat-ayat Cinta: The Movie, At Last It Has Its Own Story, Extended One

Ayatayatcinta Since i am now on duty out of Jakarta, i just had the chance to see AAC The Movie last Friday @detos, as i take my home vacation, here in Jakarta. It’s already been three weeks since the movie was launched, but there’s still much enthusiasm to watch it, as the tickets sold out even long before the ticket box for the show time closed, one or two hours before.

To review this movie, i try to be objective, not to compare it with its original book. Seems hard, the same as other viewers that have read the book may, less or more will see how the book story translated into screen play. And it did happened. In the first part of the movie, there are some story that’re omitted in the screen play. For those who haven’t read the book may not get story or the surrounding atmosphere, it looks like jumped scene, not clear what’s the connection of one scene to another, or who’s the characters really are. But for those who had read the book, just feel something gone, but still know the story. The act of the actor not good at this first part, not so character enough. Hanung director style, can be seen in the transition and how the picture is taken, especially in the first part.

It is in the middle to the end, then the movie speaks its own story, as the scripts start to be good in maintaining the story, the actors/actresses start to be good in their character. Enjoyable, as we not compare it again with the book, just see how the movie flows. It has some different story, even it’s extended in the end.
The story continues with how the man deal with his two wives, an interesting natural conflict management.

The location of the movie taken, India instead of Egypt, and some of the actors/actresses that are not original, Indonesian instead of Egyptian or others, make this movie seems to lose its atmosphere. More not comfortable if correlated with the inconsistent language used, but consider it minor.

Overall, although there’re some lacks especially in first part. As an unique genre movie, a novel based movie, we may consider it entertaining and has its own story, extended one. Rate it 4 out of 5.
